Overall the Galaxy Tab S10 FE is a solid, Goldilocks device for those looking to get into the tablet market, based on its price, specs, looks and capabilities.
- Excellent mid-tier device
- High quality LCD screen
- Clever learning capabilities
- S Pen placement
- Few additional attachments, like power adaptor or keyboard
Tablets are technology's hybrid mix of a phone and a laptop. They're built for on-the-go with a lightweight design and get the job done far better than the Notes app on your smartphone. Yet a tablet isn't just another device.
Owning one could translate to leaving work an hour earlier because you can squeeze in work hours on the commute home, or could mean getting into eBooks or finally starting that graphic design side-hustle you've been dreaming of.
Either way, the productivity and leisurely capabilities of a tablet are endless. And the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE is a fantastic device to start expanding your creative horizons.
What we like about the Galaxy Tab S10 FE
We're starting broad because there's a lot to love here.
Included specs: To keep this tablet on the affordable side, Samsung modified certain specs to keep costs down. But, in a surprising twist, it doesn’t feel like they’ve sacrificed on anything so crucial that it’s a deal-breaker.
For example, despite not having an OLED screen, the LCD one is of pretty high quality, with blacks virtually matching the edges. It also doesn’t come with a 120Hz refresh rate, however, the 90Hz isn't noticeably clunky. And while it may not be 13 or 15 inches, the almost 11 inches you do get are plenty to work with. This device is also slightly more rectangular than an iPad, which we found was better for drawing.
Performance: This tablet handles various activities seamlessly, both individually and when switching back and forth between projects — such as gaming, drawing, colouring, streaming a TV and browsing the internet. This tablet shows no signs of lag or overheating and is simple to use (once you get the hang of the Android setup) and feels sleek, comfortable, and lightweight to hold and travel with.
This device comes with 128GB of storage, but this can be doubled for an extra $70. It has 12GB of memory and can take a microSD up to 1TB on top of this.
AI capabilities: These days AI is working its hardest to impress us by simplifying tasks or showing off its creative skills. But Samsung takes this beyond converting your favourite photo into a customised sketch. Thanks to its intelligence feature, you can use this tablet to decipher handwritten notes, including spacing, straightening lines or correcting letter shapes. This is super handy for teachers, students, note-takers and list-makers. If you're after a more analytical solution, it can also decipher and solve handwritten math problems.
S Pen stylus: Including a stylus with any device is a very generous move (we're looking at you, Apple). And better yet, the S Pen that Samsung includes is lightweight, super-mobile, battery-free, doesn't require charging and is ideal for drawing and art projects. It's super responsive and easy to adjust to, even if you've never used one before.
What we dislike about the Galaxy Tab S10 FE
Lack of power adaptor: It's a petty annoyance but annoying nonetheless. The assumption that anyone who purchases this tablet will already have the correct power adaptor for the included C type charging cable is irritating.
S Pen placement: While we do love the inclusion and useability of the S Pen, there's simply is no where to put it. Even one of those little elastic loops you get on notebooks would go a long way to ensure you don't have to fork out $99 (or $69.30 with the current discount) for a replacement.
Other odds and ends
Set up: Again, once you become familiar with Samsung's take on Android (if, like me, you're more familiar with iOS), it's relatively intuitive. The setup doesn't feel any longer or more complex than other tablets. So here, no news is good news.
Camera: This device has a 13MP rear camera, which is the same as the S10 FE Plus model and an improvement on the two 8MP cameras on the S9 FE Plus model.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE — Final Thoughts
Overall, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE is a very versatile tablet. Its comparatively affordable price point makes it reasonably accessible, especially when compared to last year's Galaxy S10. Plus its surprisingly generous specs and inclusions make it perfectly capable of keeping up with everyday tasks.
It can be used for both crucial tasks, like work and study, or something more trivial, like an eReader or for streaming on the go. As clichéd as it sounds, its potential is only largely limited by what you can imagine for it.
