Telstra has started accepting pre-orders for the new entry-level iPad Apple announced last week. iPad (2018) mostly provides a spec bump over last year's model, but it also adds support for the Apple Pencil stylus.
While the iPad (2018) is available in both Wi-Fi only and 4G models, Telstra will only range the 4G variants to take advantage of its network. Pre-orders will start delivering from April 24.
For reference, outright pricing for these models is as follows:
- 32GB iPad, Wi-Fi + 4G: $669
- 128GB iPad, Wi-Fi + 4G: $799
Telstra's plans (sold as 24-month contracts) are as follows:
Telstra iPad (2018) 32GB plans
| Data Inclusion | iPad Repayment | Monthly Total | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Go Mobile Data Plus S | 1GB | $15 | $30 |
| Go Mobile Data Plus M |
6GB | $11 |
$41 |
| Go Mobile Data Plus L | 15GB | $5 |
$50 |
| Go Mobile Data Plus XL | 25GB | $0 | $70 |
Telstra iPad (2018) 128GB plans
| Data Inclusion | iPad Repayment | Monthly Total | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Go Mobile Data Plus S | 1GB | $20 | $35 |
| Go Mobile Data Plus M |
6GB | $17 |
$47 |
| Go Mobile Data Plus L | 15GB | $12 |
$57 |
| Go Mobile Data Plus XL | 25GB | $7 | $77 |
In both cases, the Data Plus Large and Xtra Large plans include access to a 12-month Foxtel Now subscription. Large gets you access to one Foxtel channel pack, while Xtra Large gets you two. Although unless you really want Foxtel Now, we'd say the Medium plan is the way to go. For example, if you want the 32GB model, you end up paying $315 for network access across your two year contract.
If you're already a postpaid Telstra mobile customer and you buy an iPad on a 24-month contract, you're able to combine your data allowances. If you're not using all of your data each month, this could let you opt for a smaller iPad plan.
