Microsoft is set to up against Apple's entry-level iPad with its smallest and cheapest two-in-one yet: the Surface Go. Starting at $599, the 10-inch tablet seems to be pitched almost directly at students, blurring the line between entertainment device and productivity.
Key specs for the Surface Go include a 10-inch 3:2 display (running at 1800 x 1200), an Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y processor, 64GB or 128GB of expandable storage, 4GB or 8GB of RAM, a single USB Type-C port, and a battery said to last up to 9 hours.
It will ships with Windows 10 with S mode enabled, which means it only has access to the Edge browser and apps available in the Microsoft Store by default. You can however switch to the full version of Windows 10, although we're not yet sure if Microsoft will charge a fee.
The existing Surface Pen will work with the Surface Go, but will cost you an extra $139.95. Microsoft also has redesigned detachable Type Cover keyboard that will launch alongside the Surface Go, that will also sell for $139.95.
Local Surface Go pre-orders start tomorrow ahead of an August 28 launch. A 4G-enabled Surface Go will be available later this year.
