Galaxy Tab S5e

After a long month of bad news for its ambitious foldable smartphone, Samsung is back to business, announcing Australian availability and pricing for its latest range of tablets. Revealed back in February, the Tab S5e and Tab A 10.1 follow the Tab S4 and Tab 10.5, which were released back in August 2018.

Both the Samsung Tab S5e and Tab A 10.1 are available now through Samsung’s online store and major Australian retailer partners, including Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi. Samsung has confirmed both tablets will be available via telco partners, but at the time of writing, there are no plans available.

Samsung is touting the S5e as its thinnest, lightest tablet yet. With a 10.5-inch display, the S5e measures in at just 5.5mm thick and weighs 400 grams. That’s a good deal lighter than the 11-inch iPad Pro, which is 5.9mm thick and weighs 468 grams.

The Tab S5e has ditched the S Pen and headphone jack but retains the Super AMOLED display of its predecessor. Key specifications include a 2560x1600 display, an Exynos 7885 processor, either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, 64GB or 128GB of expandable storage, and a 7,040mAh battery.

The Tab S5e isn't a bad option for the budget-minded, costing between $649 for the 64GB WiFi model and $949 for the 128GB 4G variant.

Here’s a complete pricing breakdown for the Galaxy S5e range:

  • Galaxy Tab S5e WiFi 64GB (Silver or Black):  $649
  • Galaxy Tab S5e WiFi 128GB (Silver): $749
  • Galaxy Tab S5e 4G 64GB (Silver or Black): $849
  • Galaxy Tab S5e 4G 128GB (Silver): $949
Galaxy Tab A 10.1

Speaking of  budget-minded, Samsung also announced pricing for its Tab A 10.1 range. This cheaper 10.1-inch tablet still offers plenty of screen real estate but with more modest hardware on the inside. It’s being marketed as a family-friendly tablet for entertainment.

Key specifications include a 1920x1200 display, an eight-core Lassen O+ processor, either 2GB or 3GB of RAM, 32GB or 128GB of  expandable storage, and a 6,150mAh battery.

The Tab A 10.1 costs between $349 for the 32GB WiFi model and $619 for the 128GB 4G model. Here’s a full breakdown of Australian pricing for the Galaxy Tab A 10.1:

  • Galaxy Tab A 10.1 32GB WiFi (Black): $349
  • Galaxy Tab A 10.1 128GB WiFi (Black): $469
  • Galaxy Tab A 10.1 32GB 4G (Black): $499
  • Galaxy Tab A 10.1 128GB 4G (Black): $619
