August is almost upon us, and the recently renamed (again) HBO Max is set to have a busy month of new releases here in Australia.
In addition to the ocean of Shark Week content streaming in August, HBO Max subscribers will also get all three The Hobbit movies (August 2) and, more importantly, all three extended cuts of The Lord of the Rings trilogy (August 9). The extended editions of the original trilogy have been rather difficult to track down in the age of streaming. They are the definitive versions of each film, adding 178 minutes (almost three hours) to the total runtime of your next marathon.
Elsewhere on HBO Max, the service will complete its collection of Final Destination movies by adding 2009's The Final Destination and this year's Final Destination: Bloodlines (August 1). Later in the month, those hungry for more DC after seeing James Gunn's Superman in theatres will be treated to Peacemaker Season 2 (August 22).
James Gunn has promised that the upcoming season of Peacemaker will tie into the events of Superman, and from the trailer, we already know that at least four characters from the movie will make an appearance: Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, Sean Gunn's Maxwell Lord and Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr. The latter of which has a score to settle after John Cena's Peacemaker killed his son Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman) in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.
That's just scratching the surface of what's coming to HBO Max Australia in August. Here's the complete list of TV shows and movies sorted by release date.
