Overall:
Prepaid mobile plans offer a great way to stay in control of your spending, with plans purchased upfront to help avoid end-of-month bill shock. While Telstra, Optus and Vodafone are the three network holders and household names in the mobile space, comparatively smaller telcos like amaysim tend to offer better monthly value by running smaller operations. Speaking of value, this amaysim mobile plans review will look at that alongside support pathways and included plan extras.
But before we get into that, below is a look at all of the amaysim prepaid mobile plans:
amaysim mobile plans: Value
We lead with appraising value because it tends to be the most important part when weighing up a plan: the cost of the plan relative to how much data it comes with. Certain telcos offer plans whose pricing starts at mid-range, while others compete at the cheaper end of town, or across cheap, mid-range and expensive options.
When judging mobile plans, we’re focusing on offers that include at least 30GB. We take this 30GB and use it as a pure dollar-to-data guide, ignoring potential discounts, promos and other extras.
Below is how amaysim fares in comparison to other prepaid plans (not starter packs, which tend to be cheaper but only to start with) with at least 30GB of data:
The plan ranking above highlights at-a-glance value for amaysim’s cheapest plan with at least 30GB, but its placement towards the bottom is somewhat deceiving. In the prepaid space, there’s a trend that sees telcos offer bonus data, albeit only on the initial recharge or few. Boost Mobile, Optus, and Telstra, for instance, all reset to lower-than-30GB amounts after the first three recharges, boosting the value ranking of amaysim’s plan the longer you stick with it.
Adding to amaysim’s value is unlimited data banking, which means you keep paying forward unused megabytes as long as you keep recharging.
amaysim network coverage
amaysim uses the Optus 4G network to connect its customers, which is accessible to 98.5% of the Australian population, and behind the 99.4% of population coverage offered by the Telstra 4G network.
Select Optus and ensure that the 4G box is ticked in the interactive map above, then find your address to see if the Optus 4G network (and therefore amaysim) is available in your area. If you select 5G and/or 3G, note that the former is the darkest shade of purple, while 3G is the lightest (4G is in between). It’s also worth flagging that the coverage maps are only an approximate guide and refer to outdoor coverage, so actual conditions may be impacted by factors including buildings.
Alternatively, enter your address while searching for a new mobile phone plan, then tap or click on ‘Search’. The search results will be tailored to what’s available at your address.
amaysim mobile plans: Support
Because the quality of a telco’s support can vary greatly from person to person, or even different support experiences for the same individual, we focus instead on the quantity of support rather than the quality. We figure that the number of support avenues offered by a telco shows how invested they are in helping customers when things go wrong.
