Moto G7 Plus Preview

What is the Moto G7 Plus?

The Moto G7 Plus is the top-tier device in the seventh iteration of Motorola's G series. G series phones have a reputation for being some of the best affordable smartphones around, and it looks like there won't be any exceptions this year.

Key specifications for the Moto G7 Plus include a 6.2-inch 1080p+ display, a Snapdragon 636 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, a 16MP + 5MP rear-facing camera, and a 3,000mAh battery. It ships with Android Pie.

Moto G7 Plus first impressions

The Moto G7 Plus is easily most premium device in Motorola’s G series to date. It has a gorgeous 6.2-inch 1080p+ display that spans most of the device thanks to a teardrop notch. The front and back are both glass, and carry a reassuring heft. All in all, it just looks and feels good.

Motorola has kitted our the G7 Plus with some decent internals. In my brief hands on, the device was silky smooth when it came to day-to-day activity. I wasn’t able to get a good grasp on photo quality, but the camera app was fast to load and shoot, which is always a promising start.

Moto G7 Plus Preview

As with most Motorola handsets, the Moto G7 Plus runs a mostly pure version of Android, which almost certainly helps with the zippy feel. Motorola has made a few tweaks - you can karate chop the phone to turn on the flash, for example - but these all tend to add to the experience, rather than take away as is the case with some customised versions of Android.

Despite being an affordable line, the G series has come a long way from the days of chunky bezels, plastic backs, and small screens. We don’t know how much it will cost locally yet, but if pricing is kept in line with past models, the Moto G7 Plus is set to be one of the best affordable phones you can buy.

Moto G7 Plus pricing and availability

The Moto G7 Plus will be available in Australia from April 11, for $499 outright. You'll find it in Officeworks, The Good Guys, and Mobileciti, or direct through Motorola online.
