The LG G Pro 2 has been officially unveiled for the western markets as the phablet version of the smaller LG G2. Shown off alongside the LG G2 mini, the G Pro 2 rocks a 5.9 inch 1080p display, a quad-core 2.26GHz snapdragon 800 CPU with 3GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of onboard storage, a 13MP camera and a 3200mAh battery.
Like the G2 mini, the G Pro 2 will run on Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and feature LG’s new KnockCode security system.
The 13MP camera is capable of capturing 4K video, although just how much better it will really look than 1080p recording is yet to be seen. We’ve mentioned more than a few times that simply cramming more pixels in to an image or video doesn’t necessarily improve its quality, so we’re interested to see if the Pro 2’s 4K is worth it, or if it’s just another marketing tagline.
Hopefully the Pro 2 will do better than LG’s curved Flex phablet, which intrigued users but failed to perform in sales, thanks in part to its unusually high price-point. Being of a more standard form-factor, we expect the Pro 2 to be a little more affordable which should help with its popularity.
We expect to see the G Pro 2 on shelves by the end of April, but so far LG has been less than precise regarding release dates.
