Telstra has added a new device to its range and it’s not what you might expect.
The new Sony Xperia E4g is a new 4G phone from a major phone maker, to be sold at a bargain price. For just $149, the E4g will get you online at blinding speeds.
This is because we’re talking about Telstra’s new 4GX network, which under the right circumstances can deliver speeds up to 150Mbps, although Telstra wisely quotes speed expectations of between 2- and 75Mbps.
The handset itself should surpass your expectations of a phone in this price bracket. It comes with a screen as large as an iPhone 6 (4.7-inch) but with a significantly lower 540 x 960 pixel resolution. It runs on Android KitKat and is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor — not too shabby.
There is a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front, with 8GB of internal storage for keeping a gallery of your pics. If you need more space, the E4g supports micro SD memory cards up to 32GB in size.
Despite its low upfront price, the E4g isn’t the cheapest 4GX phone in Telstra stores. This honour goes to the Telstra branded ‘4GX Buzz’, a pretty terrible-looking phone, but it’s hard to argue with a 4G phone under $100.
