Telstra's new phone plans

Telstra today shuffled around data and pricing across its entire range of post-paid plans, bumping up value across almost the entire family. Customers taking up select plans worth $79 per month or more are however arguably the biggest winners, and will receive one free year of Foxtel Now with their package.

The free subscription to Foxtel Now includes access to as many as three starter packs for a total added value of up to $420 over the course of 12-months. You're able to choose from Pop, Drama, Docos, Kids, and Lifestyle. Premium options such as Sport and Movies aren't available as part of the free Foxtel Now offer.

On SIM only-plans, the $79 plan comes with one Foxtel Now pack, and the $99 plan comes with two.

On 24-month contracts bundled with new phones, the $99 plan gets you one starter pack, the $129 plan gets you two starter packs, and plans worth $149 or more get you three starter packs.

This offer is valid until December 25.

In terms of pricing, we'd describe Telstra's 24-month plan changes as more of a rejig; inclusions have mostly been tweaked, rather than overhauled. Here's how the old and new 24-month plans compare.

Plan Previous price Previous data inclusion New price New data inclusion
Small $55 1GB $59 2GB
Medium $75 5GB $79 5GB
Large $95 17GB $99 20GB
X-Large $135 39GB $129 30GB
XX-Large $195 75GB $149 50GB
Premium N/A N/A $199 100GB

Notably, the XL, XXL, and Premium plans include 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB of roaming data per month, and unlimited talk and text while overseas.

On the other hand, Telstra's 12-month SIM only plans have become cheaper, and there's also a new high-end option that gets you 30GB of data for $99 per month.

Plan Previous price Previous data inclusion New price New data inclusion
Small $50 8GB $39 2GB
Mx (Online Only) $60 10GB $50 10GB
Medium $70 15GB $59 15GB
Large $90 25GB $79 20GB
X-Large N/A N/A $99 30GB

In addition, all plans with international calling inclusions now include unlimited talk and text to 15 countries, up from the 10. The countries are as follows: Bangladesh, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, UK, USA, and Vietnam.

Spending $59 per month or more on a SIM-only plan gets you international calling inclusions, as does spending $99 or more on a 24-month contract.
