Telstra has announced the Enterprise and Business launch of its new Telstra 4G LTE Network. Come the 29th of August two thousand pioneer USB modems will be made available to Telstra Business customers. This new product is to be named the Telstra USB 4G and will run on both 4G LTE and 4G HSPA, utilising both the 1800MHz and 850MHz spectrum bands. This means that anywhere where customers do not have 4G support Telstra’s 3G HSPA network should still be available.
The Telstra USB 4G will be available initially to account managed business customers. It can be purchased in conjunction with a range of plans including for $0 upfront on the $49 Telstra Mobile Broadband Standard Plan over 24 months (minimum total cost $1,176) with 7GB included data. It will be available from 29 August through Telstra Business and Telstra Enterprise & Government account managers.
- Peter Symons, Telstra Public Affairs
Telstra 4G LTE coverage will initially only be available within 4km of the GPO in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. As with all forms of wireless speeds are sure to vary dependant on location, time of day, device hardware, software configuration and interference from other devices in your area.
Of course Telstra is sure to progress to offering 4G enabled mobile handset devices in the future, but for now it seems the Telstra USB 4G wireless modem will have to do as far as announcements go.
4G LTE has seen extreme success in the USA on both Verizon Wireless and AT&T; America’s two largest network carriers. As a service LTE offers superior response times and much faster internet connections for those in supported areas, sometimes even edging out fixed line ADSL2+ connections which are Australia’s current standard for landline high speed broadband internet.
We're very excited that Telstra has taken the next step towards offering this great service in Australia and we'll certainly keep you all updated as more information becomes available.
