Sony fans looking for a cheaper option will soon have two new options to choose from, with local pricing announced for the new Xperia M5 and Xperia C5 Ultra handsets.
Vodafone will range the M5 with prices starting from $5 per month on a $40 Red Plan, $3 on a $60 plan, and $0 on $80 Red plans.
The C5 Ultra, described by Sony as a “PROSelfie, super mid-range phone”, will only be sold outright through retailers, including The Good Guys, for RRP $549.
Both phones fit the mid-range category, but offer something slightly different. The C5 Ultra is a large-screen phablet, with a 6-inch display, while the M5 is a more conventional 5-inches. Both have similar octo-core processors, though the M5 is clocked at a higher speed and comes with more RAM.
Despite Sony’s promotion of the C5 Ultra as PROSelfie, both phones have large front-facing lenses and 13-megapixel sensors for selfie shots. The C5 Ultra has the same camera on the back, while the M5 has a higher specced 21.5-megapixel shooter facing the rear.
Interestingly, on the M5 is water resistant. This is a shame for phablet lovers hoping to take the new C5 Ultra in the pool and watch Netflix on a floating pool lounge. Strange too given how many recent Sony releases have been water resistant.
