The Galaxy Note is usually Samsung's last hurrah for any given year - at least as far as mobile is concerned - but we could see the company announce another major handset before 2018 is out. Samsung Mobile CEO DJ Koh told CNBC that it's "time to deliver" on its long awaited foldable smartphone, hinting that it could be unveiled at the company's developer conference in November.
The device - widely referred to as the Galaxy X - is expected to have a single bendable 7-inch screen that will fold in half like a wallet. Wall Street Journal claims it will also have a smaller display on the front that's still visible when the phone is folded. Samsung was granted patents regarding such a design in May this year.
Wall Street Journal previously reported that Samsung's foldable phone will cost at least USD$1,500, which currently converts to over $2,000 locally, and that it will launch at the start of next year.
If Samsung does indeed reveal a foldable phone in the coming months, it might not end up in stores until 2019. Especially if Samsung is unveiling it at a developer event, where the intent may be more so to give devs a head start on optimising their apps for a foldable display.
