Optus' latest prepaid smartphone - the eponymous Optus X Sleek - looks like it could be a winner in the increasingly competitive bang-for-buck market segment. You can get your hands on the Optus X Sleek for just $149 upfront, or four interest free instalments of $37.25, paid every 14 days.
Despite the bargain bin price-tag, the Optus X Sleek is built from metal and has surprisingly reasonable hardware. Key specifications include a 5-inch 720p display, quad-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.3GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, a 13MP rear-facing camera, 2,460mAh battery, and a rear-facing fingerprint reader. The Optus X Sleek runs Android Marshmallow.
The Sleek is actually a rebadged Alcatel Shine Lite. Alcatel unveiled the phone in September, but didn't confirm any plans for an Australian launch at the time.
As a prepaid device, the X Sleek is locked to the Optus network. If you recharge your prepaid account to minimum accumulated amount of $80, Optus will unlock the phone for free. Otherwise, there's an $80 unlocking fee if you've had the device for less than six months, or $25 if you've had it for more than six months.
