OPPO often refers to its entry level smartphones as "selfie experts", and it's doubling down on that claim with the newly announced F3 Plus. The new phablet touts two front-facing cameras: a 16MP camera for high-resolution solo shots, and a wide-angle 8MP camera for group shots.
While we've now seen plenty of smartphones that use two rear-facing cameras to emulate optical zoom, the F3 Plus is one of the first to do the same on the front.
Other key specifications include a 6-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 653 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, a 4,000mAh battery, and a 16MP rear-facing camera. As with OPPO's other smartphones, the F3 Plus runs ColorOS 3.0, based on Android Marshmallow.
The OPPO F3 Plus will be joined by the OPPO F3 a later date, but the presumably smaller companion device has yet to be officially announced.
A local OPPO representative told WhistleOut that F3 series phones will be making their way to Australia, but wasn't able to confirm models, pricing, or availability.
When asked for clarification as to which of the two phones will make their way to Australia, an OPPO spokesperson provided the following statement:
"We consider every device launched by HQ for the Australian market. However, at this time, we are still concentrating on the recent launches of the R9s, R9s Plus and F1s which are all performing extremely well in Australia. We will of course inform you once we confirm whether we believe the F3 and F3 Plus will be suitable for the Australian market and when it will be available."
The announcement of the F3 Plus follows OPPO's Mobile World Congress keynote where the Chinese manufacturer unveiled its own dual rear-facing camera technology.
