Not willing to shell out $1000-plus for a new smartphone? No problem: Alcatel's all-new, value-first devices are here - and won't cost you more than $99.
The manufacturer has launched two accessible, affordable handsets aimed at entry-level, prepaid and budget-conscious buyers. The new Alcatel U5 is available from Vodafone from today, while the smaller U3 will arrive in August.
The Alcatel U3
Priced at just $73, the U3 is a 4-inch smartphone that's ideal for teenagers picking up their first device, or users looking for a simple, wallet-friendly alternative to hyped-up higher end handsets. The 4G phone includes ease-of-use settings such as Simple Mode (for quick access to your fave apps), and Phone Guard (for increased performance, longer battery life and virus protection).
Selfie-takers will love the U3's face-flattering 1.3MP front camera with LED flash, 5MP rear camera, and photo-enhancing features such as Face Show. The U3 also includes 8GB of internal memory (plus a 32GB microSD card slot), and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The Alcatel U5
If you've got a little more to spend, the slightly-larger Alcatel U5 comes with a $99 price tag and features a bigger, brighter 5-inch display. You'll get all the same features as the entry-level U3, but with additional photo customisation capabilities (and a 2MP camera in front).
The U5 also includes 8GB of external memory, expandable up to 64GB with a microSD card (as opposed to the 32GB available with the smaller U3). Both the U3 and U5 feature quad-core, 1.1GHz processors, both are available in Cocoa Grey colourways, and - like the aforementioned U3 - the Alcatel U5 will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Both devices appear to be exclusive to Vodafone, with the prepaid-only, $99 U5 available in stores now, and the $79 U3 arriving next month.
