Microsoft today has officially launched Xbox Cloud Gaming in Australia, allowing anyone to stream over 100 games to their phone or tablet without the need to actually own an Xbox. Titles available include Sea of Thieves, Forza Horizon 4, and Control. Upcoming titles include Forza Horizon 5, Back 4 Blood, and Halo Infinite.
While some titles - such as Minecraft Dungeons and Hades - include touchscreen controls, most will require you to have a controller you can pair with your phone or tablet.
Xbox Cloud Gaming is part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which will set you back $15.95 per month.
If you're on iPhone or iPad, you can access Xbox Cloud Gaming through your web browser. On Android, you'll use the Xbox Game Pass app. If you also have an Xbox console, progress will transfer between your phone or tablet and your console.
When we tested Xbox Cloud Gaming in beta, we found it used around 3GB of data per hour, which is worth noting if you're using it on a mobile plan. You'll also want download speeds of around 10Mbps to ensure a smooth experience.
Locally, Telstra is partnering with Microsoft to offer Game Pass Ultimate as a phone and internet plan add-on in addition to Xbox All Access. It still costs the retail price but if you're a Telstra customer, you can just add it to your monthly bill. New customers are eligible for a month-long free trial.
In addition, Telstra says it has worked with Microsoft to optimise its network to support cloud gaming and is committed to continuing to do so.
Telstra has also added to its range of gaming accessories with phone compatible controller grips, including the Razer Kishi and Backbone One. The Kishi will set you back $154.95 outright and comes in options for both iPhone and Android. Telstra has yet to price the Backbone One (or confirm when it will start selling it), but the local retail price is $179.99.
They'll both also be in the Telstra Plus rewards store for members.
