Following on from the announcement of a local partnership between Vodafone and Spotify, the telco today reveals which plans will get free music and for how long.
Spotify Premium membership benefits will be added to all Postpaid plans on a contract of either 12- or 24-months, with the length of the complimentary Spotify subscription differing based on which Red Plan a customer chooses.
$70 Red Plan customers will receive 6-months of free streaming music, 12-months for customers on the $80 Plan and a full two-years if pay $100 per month.
Monthly Postpaid customers miss out on the music entirely, unless they choose to commit to Vodafone for at a year.
Bits and bobs
One important caveat to keep in mind before rushing out for free Spotify is that Vodafone is not offering the data needed to stream the music, so you need to choose a plan with enough data for your regular use and the music you’ll want to listen to.
Handily, Vodafone and Spotify have passed on some information about how much data this is expected to be.
By their calculations, listening to one-hour of music on either the normal (96knps bitrate) or high quality (160kbps) settings will use between 1.5GB and 2GB of data each month.
Considering that the $70 Red Plan comes with 3GB data, there should be enough data included on any of the plans including Spotify for most people not to have to worry.
Your mileage will almost certainly vary though, so it is a good idea to keep an eye on your data over the first few months of your contract to be sure you have enough.
