Virgin Mobile today announced an extra 1GB of data on its $35 SIM-only plan, doubling the monthly data allowance for customers choosing this plan before 4th March.
Customers who sign up for the $35 plan during February will keep receiving the extra data each month until they cancel their subscriptions or change to a different plan in the future.
The $35 SIM Plan also includes $500 national calls, unlimited SMS and Virgin’s Rollover feature, which moves unused call credit forward from month to month.
The extra 1GB data is an important increase for Virgin SIM-only customers, considering how competitive the $30 to $40 price point is in Australia. Optus network stablemates Vaya and Jeenee Mobile are worthy of comparison, with the former offering $650 calls and 2.5GB for $27 per month, and the latter offering $650 calls and 3GB data for $35 per month. Like Virgin, both Vaya and Jeenee offer 4G data speeds.
Telstra network carrier Telechoice also offers $650 calls (at a higher per min call rate) and 2GB of data on Telstra's 3G network for $30 per month, but only if you sign up for 24-months. Without a contract, the same plan costs $40 per month.
