Telstra has announced it is nearing the release of a Category 6 LTE mobile hotspot capable of downloads speeds up to a theoretical maximum of 300Mbps.
The 4G Advanced Pro X is to be manufactured by Huawei and takes advantage of 700MHz spectrum auctioned to the telcos as part of the analog TV shutdown across Australia. Telstra and its competitors will be able to switch on these services in early 2015.
The Pro X will supersede the Telstra 4G Advanced mobile hotspot (pictured) that is currently available.
To achieve its fastest speeds, the hotspot uses Carrier Aggregation technology to bond two separate 4G frequencies, in this case the 700MHz and 1800MHz bands. This is the same method Telstra used to create its Next G network using 3G technology, several years ago.
Huawei also claims that the modem will be capable of operating for up to 10-hours continuously on battery-power; a boon for road warriors who need all-day stamina from a mobile hotspot.
