Telstra network customers across the country reported issues with the telco's network this morning, leaving them unable to access data or make phone calls. WiFi calling also appeared to be impacted.

The telco says it has made progress resolving the issue. In a statement, a Telstra spokesperson said that "around 90 per cent of calls and data now flowing successfully across the network". 

"Our teams are working as quickly as possible to restore remaining services and get all customers back online. We know how much our customers rely on our network and understand just how much of a disruption this is to your day. For that we’re so sorry".

According to Down Detector, issues started at 5am, hitting a peak at around 6.30am. 

The outage is impacting customers on Telstra itself, as well as Telstra-powered providers like Boost Mobile, Belong, Everyday Mobile, Tangerine, and ALDI Mobile. Other Telstra network providers include Superloop, Exetel, More, EZEE Mobile, and Spacetalk.  

One WhistleOut staff member with a Telstra plan has been experiencing intermittent connectivity. They're able to access mobile data, but it can drop out entirely. Other team members with Telstra network plans have had their phones on SOS only.

Telstra customers looking for a stopgap connectivity solution with an eSIM-compatible device could sign up for a prepaid plan from an Optus network or Vodafone network provider with eSIM. Here are some prepaid plans from providers that offer eSIM:

Optus, Vodafone, and amaysim all have plans with a seven-day expiry.

eSIM - an electronic SIM or embedded SIM - is a rewritable SIM card that’s built into a cellular device like a smartphone or smartwatch. Unlike a physical SIM, there's no need to pop open a slot or pry off a case to put it in; an eSIM never leaves your phone. Instead, a customer downloads a "software SIM" from their provider of choice.

Phones with eSIM support are effectively dual SIM, so customers can add a second "digital" SIM card without swapping out their primary physical SIM. 

Today's Telstra outage follows a Vodafone outage in the middle of June. Vodafone's outage was nationwide, but lasted just a few hours.
