We should all be staying home as much as possible right now, but just in case, that wasn't clear enough, Telstra is offering up another reminder.
iPhone and iPad owners on Telstra will now see "Telstra #StayHome" as the telco's network name in the top left hand corner of their devices, rather than just Telstra.
At present, the new network name is only visible on iOS devices.
If you're a Telstra customer with an iPhone or iPad and don't currently see the new network name, you've probably been doing a great job of self-isolating. The name change triggers when your phone connects to a new Telstra tower. If you'd like to force it to get an ever-present reminder to not leave your house, you can follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app
- Tap Mobile
- Tap Mobile Data Options
- Tap Voice & Data
- Select 3G, and wait for your phone to change to a 3G signal
- Select 4G, VoLTE On (or VoLTE Off, if that was your previous setting)
- Your phone or tablet should now show "Telstra #StayHome" as its network name.
There's no word on if or when the updated network name will be visible on Android devices. WhistleOut understands these kind of changes are much easier to implement on iOS.
Telstra is the first Australian telco to update its network name, but we've seen providers overseas make similar changes. So far, we've seen these kinds of messages in countries including Germany, the United Arab Emirates, India, Turkey, Peru, Iran, and Greece.
We've reached to Optus and Vodafone to see if they're planning on implementing similar changes.
