Telstra MVNO Telechoice today unveil big changes to its range of SIM only phone plans, ditching all 24-month contracts, lowering the price on 12-month plans, and adding two new top-tier offers with both yearly and monthly commitment options.
The Live Flexi and Live Global plans are new additions, and are essentially the same plans but with different contract lengths. Live Global plans operate on a 12-month contract and 3GB data, plus 30-minutes per month of calls to international numbers. The Live Flexi plans have the same inclusions but on month-to-month contracts, with a $6 price premium to cover this extra flexibility.
To make way for the ‘Live ‘plans, Telechoice has retired plans in the same price range, namely the Global Liberty Fighter and Freedom of Speech plans. In total, the number of available Telechoice’ plans has decreased in number from 21 plans to 14.
How do they stack up?
All in all, Telechoice remains a little on the expensive side. A quick search on WhistleOut for Monthly plans with 3GB data positions Telechoice a fair way down the page, beneath both Optus and Vodafone and Telstra network stablemates Boost Mobile.
Monthly Plans with Unlimited Calls and 3GB data

Also on the Telstra network is Aldi Mobile who recently added a new XXL Value Pack plan including 4GB of data, plus virtually unlimited minutes and SMS for $45 per month.
If you're willing to sign up with Telechoice for 12-months, the $55 price tag you see in the image above drops to $49 per month -- in line with Live Connected's Rapid Plan 49.
Telechoice has definitely taken a step in the right direction by cutting out 24-month plans. If it can repeat the process and trim 12-month plans, but keep the cheaper price for monthly plans, we think they would be far more competitive.
