Samsung today announced the Australian availability of the Galaxy A90 5G, the first 5G smartphone in the manufacturer's "mid-range" device family. Priced at $1,049 outright, the new device sits at the top the Samsung A series - handsets Samsung considers a bit less premium and a little more affordable than its flagship Galaxy S and Galaxy Note range.
For comparison, both the Galaxy S10 5G and Galaxy Note 10+ 5G retail for $1,999 outright, which makes the A90 5G almost half the price. While this makes it cheaper than most 5G phones we've see to date, the A90 5G isn't the cheapest 5G device around. That honour goes to Xiaomi's Mi Mix 3 5G, which is currently available for $699 through JB Hi-Fi thanks to a sale.
While the Galaxy A90 5G is technically part of Samsung's mid-range family, it's powered by the same top-end Snapdragon 855 processor we've seen in pretty much every flagship Android phone this year.
Other key specifications for the Galaxy A90 5G include a 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED display, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, an in-screen fingerprint reader, a 48MP + 8MP + 5MP rear-facing camera setup, and a 4,500mAh battery.
The Galaxy A90 5G is available from today. You'll find it outright though Samsung and the usual range of retailers, or on a plan from Telstra and Optus.
It is of course worth remembering that Australia's 5G networks are still very much in their infancy; coverage on both the Telstra 5G network and the Optus 5G network is pretty limited, and Optus 5G currently doesn't work indoors. Here's a look at some of the plans you can get the Galaxy A90 on:
