Bad news everyone, Netflix is getting more expensive in Australia. The streaming giant today increased its Premium plan pricing from $17.99 per month to $19.99 per month. Mercifully, pricing hasn't changed on Netflix's Basic and Standard plans, which are still $9.99 and $13.99 per month, respectively.
Despite the rise in price, Netflix's Premium plan is still the same. It's still the only way to get access to 4K content, and it still lets you watch on up to four devices at once.
Netflix's price change comes into effect from today for new subscribers. Customers currently on the Premium plan should see the price rise on their next monthly bill.
Given Disney+'s looming launch, Netflix's price hike is a ballsy move. Disney+ will only cost $8.99 per month when it goes live on November 19. The service will only have a single pricing tier, and will offer 4K streaming and four simultaneous screens for all customers, out of the box. You'll also have the option of paying $89.99 upfront to get Disney+ for a year, which works out to be $7.41 per month.
Of course, Disney+'s content library will be smaller and more specific than what Netflix has on offer. The Disney+ catalogue will initially be made up of Disney classics, Pixar movies, Marvel movies, Star Wars, content from National Geographic, and all thirty seasons of The Simpsons. While these are all beloved franchises, Netflix still wins when it comes to variety and quantity.
