PlayStation 3’s indie darling Journey today made a surprise appearance on the iOS App Store, with no prior tease or announcement. The game - one of the most iconic indie titles of all time - is now available available to download on iPhone and iPad for $7.99, which actually makes it the cheapest way to play Journey right now.
Your other options are $22.95 for PlayStation 3 / PlayStation 4 or $14.99 USD on PC via the Epic Games Store.
While not the first of its kind, Journey was one of the first games to truly master the unadulterated wonder of exploration. There’s no combat, no dialogue, and barely any puzzles to solve. The fact that it’s so enthralling is a testament to its pacing, stunning art direction and award-winning musical score.
It’s also a bite-sized adventure, taking between 2 and 5 hours to complete, depending on how sidetracked you get by the game’s blissful scenery. It’s the perfect length for a narrative adventure on the go but be sure you play through with some quality headphones.
Developer thatgamecompany released a brand-new game, Sky: Children of the Light, as a timed iOS exclusive last month and its other PS3 classic Flower came to iOS back in 2017 (which also came out of nowhere).
Journey’s simple controls and soothing game play make it the perfect fit for iOS. We can’t wait to experience it all over again. And if you can wait until iOS 13, you'll be able to pair a Xbox One or PlayStation 4 controller with your iPhone or iPad to enhance the experience.
