Check out this year's Black Friday mobile phone and mobile plan deals.
Black Friday deals are a great way to find a deal on the one shiny new gadget you've been wanting for a while, or even just grab a discount on something you already need, like mobile plans.
We've gathered some of the best Black Friday phone and mobile deals we've seen from Australia's Big Three telcos, but be sure to take note of our commentary. Some of these "deals" aren't necessarily the bargains they appear to be.
Optus Black Friday deals for mobile
Optus has a few black Friday deals for phones, one for the Galaxy Watch 5, and some prepaid deals, too.
Optus prepaid deals
Prepaid deals from Optus aren't limited to just plans – there are a couple of phone discounts, too. But honestly, you're better off sticking to the prepaid plans or scrolling further to find the bigger phone discounts on postpaid plans.
Prepaid plans – limited-time discounts on 28-day and 365-day expiries
Three of Optus' prepaid plans are seriously discounted for the first three recharges (including the first activation).
The 55GB and 80GB plans have 28-day expiries, which means you only get the discount for about three months. The 55GB prepaid SIM is normally $35, but is only $12 for each of the first three (65% off). The 80GB SIM is normally $45, but is only $17 for each of the first three (62% off).
If you want a longer-term deal, Optus' 365-day prepaid plan is discounted by $100, for a sale price of $220. While this is only 31% off, it also applies for the first three recharges – each of which is a full year, instead of just 28-days. And the deal includes 80GB of bonus data for those three recharges, for 280GB. After that, it drops to 200GB.
Here's a look at Optus' discounted 365-day plan:
And here are some other 365-day prepaid plans with at least 200GB in our database, ranked by price:
Prepaid phone + SIM bundles
Optus has a couple of prepaid phone discounts if you grab one with an eligible prepaid plan, but we'd advise caution before jumping in. You might be tempted to pick one up, thinking this is an easy way to grab a small discount on a phone, without getting locked into a contract.
However, Optus locks its prepaid phones, meaning you can't use them with another provider. To unlock your phone phone Optus, you need to pay $80 if your service has been active less than six months, after which it drops to $25. By itself, $80 is more than either phone discount, so forget any cunning hopes of a quick getaway. And given Optus' aren't exactly among the cheapest prepaid plans on the market, you'd actually save more by paying full price for either phone and going with a smaller provider.
But if you're still interested, lets look at these two deals. The discounts aren't eye watering, but they do at least come with a free $35 prepaid Optus SIM with a 28-day recharge.
The two prepaid mobile bundles are:
- Samsung A05s for $179 – save $70 on the phone (plus a free 28-day SIM, valued at $35)
- Oppo A58 for $199 – save $50 on the phone (plus a free 28-day SIM, valued at $35)
Mobile phone and smartwatch deals
There are nine phones you can pick up from Optus with big discounts right now, available on 24 or 36-month plans. The amount you can save depends on the Black Friday deal in question, and some are only available with 36-month repayment terms.
And remember, you'll need a SIM plan on top of your phone repayments, so factor that into your budgeting
Up to $800 off select smartphones
Most of the phone deals are straight-up dollar discounts, ranging from $500 to $800 off over a 24 or 36-month repayment plan.
- Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold – save $800
- Google Pixel 9 Pro – save $800
- Motorola Razr 50 – save $650
- Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra – save $500
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 – save $500
- Samsung Galaxy S24 FE – save $500
To save you doing the maths, here's how much you'll pay each month for one of these phones on a 36-month Optus mobile plan:
Smartphones for $1 per month
Optus has three budget smartphones available for just $1 per month on 36-month repayment plans, or $1.50 per month on 24-month plans. Whichever you choose, that's a total of $36 for the phone. Given the small difference of 50 cents per month, you might as well opt for a 24-month plan, so you can switch to a cheaper SIM-only plan sooner from a smaller provider.
Each phone has a different recommended retail price, so you'd save a different amount over the life of your plan, depending on which option you pick. And you have to stick around for the full term or pay full price for the handset if you leave early.
- Galaxy A16 5G – save $312.48
- Moto g54 – save $242.64
- ZTE Nubia Focus 5G – save $212.40, plus a free pair of BlueAnt Pump Air Lite2 true wireless earbuds, valued at $90
Here's a look at 24-month plans for each of these handsets:
50% off select Samsung smartwatches
The Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro are both 50% off when you grab one with a 36-month Watch plan ($10 per month for 1GB). The discounts are applied to your monthly watch repayments over the 36 months, and you need to stick out the whole term or pay full price.
The Galaxy Watch5 comes in two sizes: 40mm and 44mm watch faces. The 40mm version is $8.30 per month (save $299.52), and it's $9 per month for the 44mm (save $324.72).
The Galaxy Watch5 Pro is $11.78 per month (save $424.80) and only comes with a 45mm watch face.
Vodafone Black Friday deals for mobile
Vodafone has some huge discounts on popular phones, savings for its postpaid SIM-only plans (which stacks with your discounted phone repayments), and deals on prepaid plans and prepaid plan + phone bundles.
Mobile phone and tablet deals
Vodafone has early Black Friday deals for a few handsets and one tablet if you pick them up with a 24 or 36-month repayment plan. While savings are always nice, keep in mind you also need to sign up to a Vodafone SIM plan and stick around for the repayment period if you want the discount. Plus, the bigger discounts might not be as attractive as they first appear.
Huge savings on iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 (sort of)
New customers save $1,299 on the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max when signing up to the 36-month Extra Large Promo plan. You can also get $1,099 on the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro Max on a 36-month Large plan.
But there's a big catch here: you have to sign up to Voda's most-expensive plans and stick with around for the full term.
For the iPhone 16 discounts, that's a $79 per month mobile plan, on top of the phone repayments. This hefty sum gets you a debaucherous 450GB of data, which is more than 20x beyond what most people need.
For the iPhone 15 discount, you're paying $69 per month for 360GB.
For reference, the average postpaid user in Australia goes through about 16GB per month, according to the ACCC's latest communications market report.
So, is there a deal here?
Really, you're only saving money if you're a prolific mobile data user. For example, with the $1,299 discount, a 128GB iPhone 16, plus an Extra Large Promo plan, comes to $117.86 per month. But this is still around $7 more per month than you'd pay for the same iPhone on a 360GB plan, and $10 more per month than a 180GB plan. If Voda's 50GB plan is all you need – and for most people it is – it's closer to $20 per month cheaper to pay full price for the phone and sign up to the smaller plan instead.
Here's a look at all the Vodafone plans for each of these iPhone models:
It's a similar story for other iPhone 16 and 15 models, so have a good think about just how much data you need. Otherwise, you might actually end up spending more per month for data you'll never use.
Huge savings on select Android phones (sort of)
It's a similar story for some of the discounts on some Android phones, which have seemingly big discounts, but only if you sign up to an expensive mobile plan.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, S24 FE, Z Fold6, and the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL are all 1,099 off if you sign up to the $69 Large plan (360GB). Once again, this sounds like a great discount, but only if you actually need that much data. Going with the 50GB plan still costs less.
But if you like the sound of big discounts for big data, here's a look at these phones on Vodafone plans:
Good savings on select Android phones (actually)
For a more straightforward discount with no pricey plan prerequisites, you can check out these phones on 24 or 36-month plans. While you do have to stick around for the full term you sign up for to keep the discount, you can pick any of Voda's SIM plans – meaning you actually save money if you only need 50GB per month or less.
These are the current discounts:
- Samsung Galaxy S24 – save $400
- Samsung Galaxy S23 FE – save $300
- Google Pixel 9 – save $300
- Motorola moto edge 50 fusion – save $300
- Samsung Galaxy A55 – save $412
And here's a look at the base model for each of these phones on 36-month Optus plans:
Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 Plus – save $200
Grab a discount on Samsung's Galaxy Tab A9 Plus Android tablet when on a 24 or 36-month device repayment plan. Unfortunately, it looks like the 128GB model is already sold out, but the 64GB option is still available.
You'll also need a data plan on top of your tablet repayments to be able to grab the discounted tablet. The two eligible plans are Vodafone's Small Data plan, which has 30GB for $20 per month, or its Large Data plan, which has 70GB for $40 per month.
Mobile plan deals
SIM-only mobile plans – $10 per month off
New connections get $10 per month off Vodafone's Small, Medium and Large postpaid SIM-only plans, if you sign up before December 2. This discount also applies to any phone repayment plan you pair them with.
If you don't need a new phone, they're still not the cheapest mobile plans around, even with this discount. But the extra perks are worth considering.
Vodafone's postpaid SIM-only plans include unlimited international texts to select destinations, while the two Medium and Large plans also include unlimited international calls to Zone 1 and Zone 2 countries. But Voda's biggest drawcard is usually its $5 roaming, which lets you access your plan's normal inclusions for just $5 per day while overseas. And you're only charged per 24-hour period in which you use those inclusions – if you keep your phone to Wi-Fi only, you don't pay the fee.
Here's a look at Vodafone's SIM-only plan deals:
And here's them compared to other mobile plans with similar data allowances, ranked by monthly price during the first six months after signing up:
160GB prepaid starter pack – $61 off
Vodafone's six-month "160GB" prepaid starter pack is normally $160, but you can get it for $99 as part of the Black Friday deal. This pack has a 185-day expiry and gets you 160GB for the first three recharges before 30 April 2026, after which it drops to 90GB. To get the bonus data, you have to activate before the end of March 2025, which also counts as your first recharge.
You can also get an additional 30GB if you opt into automatic recharges.
This prepaid mobile plan has 5G coverage, unlimited standard calls and texts, 50 standard international texts, and up to 200GB data rollover – though rollover requires you to recharge before your plan expires.

Telstra Black Friday deals for mobile
Telstra has a range of deals covering prepaid, phone discounts, earbuds, and smartwatches.
Prepaid deals
Telstra's prepaid deals include one prepaid plan discount, and a couple of deals on prepaid phones.
Prepaid plans
New customers can get Telstra's $350 prepaid SIM kit for $299 ($51 discount) until December 2. Available online only and you must activate the SIM by March 10 of next 2025. Only the first payment is discounted – future recharges are full price.
Here's the prepaid SIM in question:
Prepaid phones
Telstra's Black Friday deals for prepaid phones aren't necessarily the best option out there right now. The discounts aren't noteworthy, and the phones come locked to Telstra for two years. To unlock the phone, it's an $80 fee if the device has been active for six months or less, or $25 for six months to two years.
Coupled with Telstra's higher prepaid prices when compared to other providers, you'll end up spending more whether you opt to stick with a Telstra prepaid plan or pay the unlocking fee and go with a smaller provider.
But, if you're still keen, here's a quick summary of the two prepaid phone deals in question:
- iPhone SE (3rd gen) – save $30, now only $499. Offer ends 30 Dec.
- Telstra T-Elite 5G – save $50, now only $129. Offer ends 2 Dec.
Phone deals
There are a few Black Friday deals offering phone discounts over repayment plans, and some smaller discounts if you buy one of the two Samsung phones phone outright.
Here's a quick summary of Telstra's Black Friday deals for phones:
- Google Pixel 8 Pro – save up to $800 when you buy on a payment plan. Offer ends 16 Dec.
- Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra – save $600 when you buy on a payment plan or save $300 for outright purchase. Offer ends 2 Dec.
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 – save $500 when you buy on a payment plan or save $300 for outright purchase. Offer ends 2 Dec.
- Google Pixel 9 Pro XL – save $500 when you buy on a payment plan. Offer ends 2 Dec.
- Apple iPhone 16 Pro – save $60 on your mobile plan over six months. Offer ends 2 Dec. For new services only.
The two most notable are the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra ($600 off) and Google Pixel 9 Pro XL ($500 off). Both are fantastic flagship Android phones. Of the two, the Pixel 9 Pro XL has the best cameras of any Android phone right now, while the S24 Ultra has a superior screen and snappier general performance.
If you're after a good mid-range handset, last year's flagship Google Pixel 8 Pro is still a decent option with great cameras, especially considering this discount and its price drop since being superseded by the Pixel 9 Pro XL. But a word of warning: we found battery life to barely make it through a full day with moderate usage, so heavy users will likely want to look elsewhere.
And finally, foldable enthusiasts should consider the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, if only for the discount. That said, its camera isn't the best around, and there's a significant screen crease where the display folds.
Last, there's a curiously small discount for the iPhone 16 Pro. There's no discount on the actual handset, but you get $10 per month off an Upfront Mobile Plan for the first six months when you use code FRIDAY10 at checkout – essentially, you save $60.
