Audible memberships for Australians doubled in included value yesterday when the online shopping giant announced its new "editor's extra" feature.
Membership with the audiobook app now comes with two free audiobooks per month: one title from the Audible library of your choice, plus a monthly "editor's extra" staff pick. Audible Australia memberships cost $16.45 per month and there is a 30-day free trial available.
This month's "editor's extra" is international bestseller The Dry by Australian author Jane Harper. The audiobook retails through Audible for the non-member price of $32.62, or the member price of $14.95. However, it is now free for members until September 2, 2019, 11.59pm AEST.

Audible has also launched a new Kids Collection - a rotating curated list of 100 children's audiobooks which are free to download with membership. Current titles include A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh, J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, The Beatrix Potter Collection and local author Jacqueline Harvey's Alice-Miranda at School.
To accompany the "editor's extra", Audible has also launched a new member-exclusive podcast. What's the Story? Hosted by Australian comedian, radio and TV presenter Tom Ballard, the podcast is said to host a revolving panel of experts and comedians who will talk about the editor's extra selections and answer questions posted on the What's Your Story? Facebook group.
These announcement are the latest in a series of moves from Audible Australia to increase the value of its membership program. Where once an Audible membership bagged you one free audiobook per month and the opportunity to buy more for $14.95 per title, membership now offers access to daily flash deals on popular titles and a raft of exclusive podcasts.
The Audible Daily Deal, introduced in February 2019, offers 24-hour sale pricing on one selected title per day, with audiobooks as diverse as The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas and Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare being offered at prices typically between $1.99 and $4.99.
Member exclusive podcasts, meanwhile, include series from personalities and authors Bear Grylls, Stephen Fry, Marc Fennel, Jon Ronson, Bill Bryson and others.
You can listen to audible via apps available for iPhone/iPad, Android and Windows devices.
