Apple has some bad news for you if you're still using an iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus. The trio of devices won't be able to upgrade to iOS 17, the upcoming version of the iPhone operating system expected to launch in September.
In addition to missing out on new features, the move means the phones are unlikely to get any future getting security and stability updates after iOS 17 launches.
The iPhone X and iPhone 8 were released in 2017 with IOS 11, and have seen five major operating system updates.
If you've got an iPhone XS or iPhone XR, you're still okay for now - your phone will get upgraded to iOS 17.
If you've still got an iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus, you may want to think about upgrading in the coming months. Your phone will keep working, but the reality is the longer you are without mainline update support, the greater the chance an unresolved security flaw will turn up in your device. And hey, new features and new gadgets are always fun.
