Australian and UK customers now have access to Theft and Loss coverage through Apple Care+.
Up until now Apple Care+ has covered Australians for battery issues, screen breaks and any other damage, at heavily discounted rates. Now for $4 extra per month, customers can add on Theft and Loss coverage as well.
Theft and Loss covers two incidents of either of its namesakes within a two-year period. Each incident costs $229, which is a substantial discount on a new iPhone, no matter which model is covered.
However, in order for recipients to claim on the policy, the device has to have Find My iPhone enabled when the phone goes missing, and throughout the claims process. During the process, users will be asked to erase the missing device, disable it and transfer ownership before being eligible for a replacement.
Theft and Loss is an affordable solution to the otherwise expensive smartphone insurance options within Australia. Telstra, Optus and Vodafone charge $15, $18, and $10 per month for their premium smartphone insurance policies, respectively. Even so, only Optus covers for theft or loss under these premiums.
Apple Care+ fees change depending on the device. However the most expensive coverage for the iPhone 13 Pro andiPhone 13 Pro Max comes to $239 for two years (the equivalent of $9.95 per month). Adding on Theft and Loss protection means you'll pay $319 instead.
Here is how much you can expect to pay for Apple Care+ on popular Apple handsets.
