Memoji is one of the exciting new features coming to your iPhone in iOS 12. Well, if you've got an iPhone X, at the least. It expands on the Animoji concept: rather than picking an emoji to animate using facial expressions, you build your own from scratch.
If you want to get amongst it and you're running iOS 12, here's how to make a Memoji:
- Open the Messages app
- Go into a conversation
- Tap the Animoji icon at the bottom of your screen (it has a monkey on it)
- Swipe to the left and tap New Memoji
Here you can pick out your skin, hairstyle, head shape, eyes, brows, nose and lips, ears, facial hair, eyewear, and headwear, each with a huge amount of colour choices.
You can make your Memoji look as much or as little as you like, and since there doesn't appear to be a limit to how many Memoji you save on your iPhone, go wild. Make the blue-skinned, pink-haired avatar of your dreams.
After you've designed your Memoji, hit Done in the top right hand corner. Your Memoji will then appear in the Animoji bar alongside the standard options you get out of the box.
To send a Memoji message, swipe over to the Memoji you want to use, hold the red record button, and when you're happy, tap the send arrow.
As with Animoji, you can send a Memoji to anyone with a phone capable of receiving video messages.
iOS 12 is currently in public beta ahead of an expected September release. You can read more about the new features coming to your iPhone with iOS 12 here.
