OPPO latest flagship smartphone, the Find X3 Pro, is here, touting an impressive display, a unique microscope camera, and more.

If you're keen to grab it on a plan, you can find it at Telstra and Optus. Outright, you'll find the OPPO Find X3 Pro at JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman.

OPPO Find X3 Pro Plans

Unfortunately, Optus and Telstra no longer offer plans on the Find X3 Pro device.

Outright Pricing: OPPO Find X3 Pro

The OPPO Find X3 Pro will set you back $1,699 outright, making it the most expensive non-special edition phone OPPO has sold in Australia to date. For comparison, last year's OPPO Find X2 Pro retailed for $1,599.

Here's the complete outright pricing for the Find X3 family.

  • OPPO Find X3 Lite: $749
  • OPPO Find X3 Neo: $1,199
  • OPPO Find X3 Pro: $1,699

OPPO Find X3 Pro Design

The OPPO Find X3 Pro features a 6.7-inch Quad HD+ display, running at a refresh rate of 120Hz. In addition, the display has 10-bit colour.

So what actually is 10-bit? 10-bit is a term used to refer to colour depth. A 10-bit image can display over a billion colours, but you can't see all of them without a 10-bit display. For comparison, most smartphones feature an 8-bit screen, which touts 16.7 million colours.

In the case of the Find X3 Pro it has both a 10-bit display and 10-bit cameras. This means it can capture, store, and display photos and video with up to a billion colours and makes it the only Android phone with an end-to-end 10-bit system.

The 10-bit display also makes it possible to watch HDR video on the Find X3 Pro.

Sadly the Find X3 Pro is a bit more conservative in terms of materials when compares to the Find X2 Pro. While the Find X2 Pro's back came in a choice of ceramic or vegan leather, the Find X3 Pro has made a return to more traditional glass. However, the rather unique camera bump has been sculpted out of the same piece of glass as the remainder of the back panel, which is kinda neat.

The Find X3 Pro features IP68 water and dust resistance.

OPPO Find X3 Pro Camera

You'll find four cameras on the back of the OPPO Find X3 Pro: a 50MP primary lens, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, a 13MP 2x telephoto lens, and a 3MP microlens.

Both the primary lens and ultra-wide lens are powered by the same type of sensor, which is rather unusual, given ultra-wide lenses tend to be a step down from the primary camera. We'll be curious to see how the pair compare when we get a proper hands on. This also means both are capable of capturing photos and videos with 10-bit colour.

The 13MP 2x telephoto lens is actually a step down from last year's Find X2 Pro, which featured a 5x telephoto lens. The Find X3 Pro can still achieve 5x hybrid zoom with software, but the Find X2 Pro was able to achieve 10x hybrid zoom.

The last camera lens is arguably the most interesting: the 3MP microlens. The microlens can take extreme closeups of objects within 1mm to 3mm of the phone. It ostensibly works like a microscope.

OPPO Find X3 Pro Battery Life

The OPPO Find X3 Pro packs a 4,500mAh, which is the same as what we saw in last year's Find X2 Pro. While the Find X3 Pro improves its predecessor in terms of screen time, we found the battery a little lacking.

With 5G on, we found we struggled to hit four hours of screen time, which is a touch less than a full day per use with moderate-to-heavy use. With 5G switched off, we were able to achieve as much as five hours of screen time, which was a tad more comfortable.

The Find X3 Pro  does however feature freakishly fast charging. A 10 minute charge is all it will take to go from flat to 40%.

It's also the first OPPO phone to launch in Australia with wireless charging. When used with OPPO's wireless charger, you can take the phone from flat to full in 80 minutes.

Both fast wired and fast wireless charging require a proprietary OPPO charger. The wired charger is in the box, while the wireless option is sold separately. The Find X3 Pro will still work with standard Qi wireless chargers, however.

OPPO Find X3 Pro Colours

The OPPO Find X3 Pro is available in a choice of two colours, Blue and Gloss Black.

The blue design has a matte finish, while the black - as the name suggests - is more traditional glossy glass.

"The Find X3 Pro builds on OPPO's recently found camera prowess delivering an excellent photography experience augmented by a fascinating microscope lens. You also get top-tier performance and a gorgeous display, but the overall package is let down by a subpar battery life and a few missing features that hurt the Find X3 Pro's overall value proposition. It's still a great device, but it's hard not to question some of OPPO's decisions."

Choosing an OPPO Find X3 Pro plan

With the WhistleOut search tool, you'll be able to compare OPPO Find X3 Pro pricing and inclusions across every provider when pre-orders go live. But there's a lot more to plans than just cost and data. Here's a break-down of the major benefits you can expect each provider to offer.

Telstra

Telstra mobile plans are often the priciest on the Australian market, but they do come with some perks. These include:

  • Access to Telstra's super-fast 4GX network
  • Data-free access to Apple Music
  • Access to the Telstra Plus perks and rewards program

Telstra lets you pay your new phone off over 12 or 24 months, and all plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your cap, your data will simply be slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps, which is still fast enough to stream video in SD. But speeds may be slower during peak times.

Optus

Optus plans come with solid data inclusions and entertainment extras. Most Optus Galaxy plans includes:

  • Free access to Optus Sport
  • Discounted movie tickets for Hoyts cinemas through the Optus Perks program

You'll miss out on Optus Sport if you go for Optus' cheapest plan.

Higher-end Optus plans also come with unlimited international calls to selected destinations included with the plan, as well as a monthly allocation of roaming data for use overseas.

All Optus plans are contract-free, devices can be paid off across 12, 24, or 36 months, and you can customise inclusions like roaming and international calls on a month-to-month basis.
