Web browsing, email, and critical software updates will be available data-free on the new wholesale Sky Muster Satellite plans NBN Co intends to launch next year.
Dubbed Sky Muster Plus, the new plans will no longer count the use of essential internet services toward monthly data allowances. In addition, these essential services will not be subject to capped speeds when a user exceeds their monthly allowance.
Given that Satellite NBN plans have much smaller download limits than fixed line connections - especially during peak hours - these changes could be a boon for those living in rural and remote Australia.
All other web traffic - including video, music, and gaming - will still count toward monthly data usage and be subject to slower speeds when a cap is reached.
Sky Muster Plus plans will also be able to exceed their standard 25Mbps speeds when there's enough capacity available on the network.
NBN Co intends to offer Sky Muster Plus plans to NBN service providers next year, although a specific timeline has yet to be confirmed.
