Optus today refreshed its broadband plans, and in the process, has axed its low speed NBN 12 offering. All Optus NBN plans are now configured on NBN 50 speeds at a minimum, starting at $75 per month. However, customers with an eligible Optus postpaid mobile account can save $10 off their monthly bill.
Optus' two main internet plans are now as follows:
Optus Ultra - $75 per month, $65 when bundled with an Optus postpaid mobile account
- NBN 50 speeds
- Unlimited data
- Pay-as-you-go calls
Optus Ultra Entertainment - $90 per month, $80 when bundled with an Optus postpaid mobile account
- NBN 50 speeds
- Unlimited data
- Pay-as-you-go calls
- Fetch TV set-top box with a single premium channel pack
- Optus Sport subscription
Notably, Optus' Ultra Entertainment bundle is $10 per month pricier than the plan it replaced. Optus says this pricing will be available to July 15, but we're not sure how the plan will change after that date.
Either plan can be upgraded to NBN 100 speeds for an extra $30 per month. Unlimited standard calls to local fixed lines, and unlimited standard calls to national fixed lines for an additional $5, and unlimited standard calls to Australian mobiles for an additional $5 per month, and unlimited standard international calls to select countries for an additional $10 per month.
Optus broadband plans are available on a 24-month contract, or on a month-to-month basis. If you'd prefer to go down the no-contract route, you'll be hit with $200 in setup fees.
Optus' NBN 50 plans are reasonably competitive when you factor in the $10 discount, but its NBN 100 plans tend to some of the priciest around. Here's a look at how the Optus Ultra NBN 50 plan compares without factoring in discounts.
