Almost 50% of NBN subscribers now on 50Mbps+ connection

44% of homes and businesses connected to the National Broadband Network are now on NBN 50 plans or faster, according to NBN Co's latest monthly progress report. This is up from just 16% in May last year. These numbers are even higher when it comes to new orders: 70% of customers signing up to the NBN are taking a NBN 50 or NBN 100 from the get go.

The take-up of faster plans has been driven by discounted wholesale prices which allow NBN resellers to sell the faster plan tier at a lower cost. This has led many ISPs to axe NBN 25 plans entirely, so customers are now typically choosing between NBN 12 and NBN 50. Telstra even upgraded almost a million customers from NBN 25 to NBN 50, which accounts for just under 25% of active NBN connections.

NBN Co also says that 91% per homes and businesses now have equipment installed right the first time (up from 86% last year), and 94% are connected within the agreed timeframe (up from 88%). Support also appears to be improving, with NBN Co claiming that 90% of faults are now resolved within the agreed timeframe (up from 59%).
