Telstra is adding to its gaming portfolio by offering Nintendo Switch consoles on a plan, joining hardware from Xbox and Sony. The telco is ranging the standard Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch OLED, and the Nintendo Switch Lite, all of which are available outright, or on a 12- or 24-month plan.
All three consoles are being sold at their recommended retail price, which means they are available cheaper elsewhere. For example, the Nintendo Switch OLED costs $539 at Telstra, but is available for $469 through Amazon.
The main reason you'd consider getting a Switch through Telstra is because you want to pay it off in interest-free instalments. The Nintendo Switch OLED sells for $24.45 per month on a 24-month term, for example.
You need to be an existing Telstra postpaid mobile or NBN customer to buy a Switch on a plan.
All three Switch iterations are also available through the Telstra Plus Reward store. The OLED model is naturally the most expensive, costing 196,000 Telstra Points. At the least, it gives customers with a whole stack of Telstra Points another option for redeeming them.
Telstra offers Xbox and PlayStation gift cards, but currently isn't doing the same for the Nintendo eShop. It does have Joy-Cons and the Switch Pro Controller available, however.
If you are thinking about buying a Nintendo Switch, it is worth noting that a Nintendo Switch 2 is on the horizon. While we don't know much about it, Nintendo has confirmed it will announce it by the end of the current Japanese financial year (March 31, 2025).
