Thanks to a new promotion Telstra is discounting every one of it’s NBN plans by $120 across 12 months and waiving the connection fee. New customers can take $10 off their monthly bill every month for the first year, and will save a further $99 on the connection fee simply by signing up online.
You’re only a few clicks away from a cheaper Telstra plan for the next year. Telstra NBN plans are contract-free, but if you leave within your first 24 months, you'll have to pay out the remaining value of the included modem.
According to typical evening speeds Telstra NBN has some of the fastest NBN 100 (Premium) and NBN 50 (Standard Plus) download speeds. Touting 88Mbps and 44Mbps respectively, the provider offers up some zippy speeds albeit at the Telstra premium cost. It’s important to note that Telstra’s NBN 100 plan is a 100/20 option, meaning that you’ll only get 20Mbps max upload speeds. For most people this shouldn’t make a major difference, but if you tend to upload big files for work you may notice some reduction in speeds.
For comparison Aussie Broadband’s 100/20 NBN plan has the closest Premium evening speed sitting at 86Mbps, and is charging $11 less per month than Telstra’s discounted rate. You could also opt for Aussie’s traditional NBN 100/40 plan with the standard 40Mbps upload speeds and still pay $1 less per month.
Standard Plus plans are more competitive with TPG, Superloop, Vodafone, Kogan, and Optus all offering speeds of 44Mbps or higher for between $9 and $14 less than Telstra per month.
Where other providers best Telstra on price, opting for Australia’s biggest telco comes with it’s perks.
Every plan comes with the Telstra Smart Modem with 4G backup at no upfront cost. So if your connection is down for whatever reason you’ll be backed by Telstra’s expansive 4G mobile network to keep you online. If you terminate your contract before 24 months is up you will need to pay out the prorated amount of the modem cost. This is equal to $9 multipled by the remaining months left on your 24-month payment plan, to a maximum of $216.
New customers also benefit from a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, if you’re not happy with your service and Telstra can’t fix it then you can cancel your NBN service with no fees or penalties.
Telstra plans also give you access to Telstra Air which connects customers to free WiFi at over a million hotspots across Australia and even more Fon hotspots overseas. You can also opt in for Telstra Plus which boasts membership rewards like cheap movie tickets and a points system to redeem for gadgets and merchandise.
These NBN plans come bundled with a basic home phone service package with unlimited local and national calls and the choice to add on unlimited international calls to 35 countries for $15 per month.
You’ll also get a free month of Foxtel Now with no strings attached.
This promotion is available until June 30, and is only available online.
