Sonos is teaming up with Swedish flatpack powerhouse Ikea for new wireless multiroom speakers set to be a little more affordable than the existing Sonos range. In addition to a cheaper price point, the Sonos x Ikea collab speakers have rather unique designs: both ostensibly double as furniture.

Our personal favourite is the Symfonisk Table Lamp, which is either a lamp that doubles as a speaker, or a speaker that doubles as a lamp, depending on your perspective. Speaker performance should be similar to the Sonos One, but it doesn't have smart assistant functionality. You'll also need to bring your own bulb.

The Symfonisk Bookshelf Speaker is surprisingly versatile in design: it's small enough to place on a bookshelf, but it can also be wall-mounted for use as a small shelf or bedside table. We don’t know much about how it will sound yet, but as an ultra-entry level device, we're expecting it to be a few steps below the Sonos One.

Both Symfonisk speakers are compatible with the entire Sonos ecosystem, can be controlled with the Sonos app, and will work in multiroom groups with all existing products such as the Sonos One and Sonos Beam.

Local pricing and availability has yet to be determined, but Ikea has confirmed the Sonos collab speakers will be available in select Australian stores at some point after August. Internationally, you'll pay USD$99 for the Symfonisk Bookshelf Speaker and USD$179 for the Symfonisk Table Lamp.
