NBN Co today confirmed it will recommence taking new orders from customers connection of the HFC portion of the network from May 24. On February 2 this year, the network builder ceased taking orders from HFC premises who had yet to connect to the NBN due to a component shortage that impacted the NBN Connection Boxes provided to customers with that technology type.
The decision did not impact HFC customers who already had an active NBN connection, and NBN Co said it planned to honour all HFC orders in the system.
While the recommencement plan is contingent on stock and factors outside of NBN Co's control, Chief Customer Officer Brad Whitcomb is confident about resuming connections from May 24.
“We are confident that we will receive regular deliveries of new HFC modems in the weeks and months ahead to enable the resumption of new HFC connections from 24 May 2021," said Whitcomb.
"We appreciate customers’ patience during this global chipset shortage that has temporarily delayed some new HFC connections to the NBN network.”
The network builder does however note that not all HFC customers who have yet to move over to NBN will not be able to order a service straight away.
If you're unsure of what technology type your premise uses, you can check by entering your address into our NBN plan search tool.
