How we judge this award

At the very top of the speed ladder sits this award, reserved for nbn250 until the new speed tier of NBN 500 was released in September 2025. NBN 500 is only avilable for FTTP and HFC connections and built for households with heavy, simultaneous demands such as large file transfers, competitive gaming or multiple 4K streams running at once.

Cost is calculated from the total price paid over a full 12 month period, a distinction that matters more at this tier since premium plans often carry higher extra fees or shorter promotional windows affecting the ongoing cost.

Inclusions are checked against a fixed list of nine possible extras, each contributing one point: a bundled home phone service, positive network satisfaction findings, a modem supplied with no cancellation penalty, a bundle discount, support based in Australia, 24/7 technical support, a complimentary speed boost, streaming or subscription perks, and any other bonus inclusion, with network satisfaction findings and a free speed boost carrying the most weight here since customers paying a premium for top tier speed are the quickest to notice any gap between advertised and actual performance.

Speed is judged using independently measured typical evening figures, mattering more at this level than at any lower tier given the price premium attached to guaranteed high performance.

Customer support is scored against eight distinct service channels: a physical store presence, phone support, live chat, email or message based support, an active and responsive social media or forum presence, round the clock support availability, weekend support hours, and self service account management online, one point per channel offered.

Customer sentiment, drawn from ratings and reviews submitted by verified customers of the plan and its provider, forms the fifth measure. Together, these five scores decide the plan's Ranking.
