Australian Disney Plus subscribers will pay $13.99 per month from December 8, up from $11.99 per month. The price hike also hits annual subscribers, who will now pay $139.99 per year, rather than $119.99.
Disney+ last saw a price rise in 2021, when Star was added, along with more mature classics like Alien and Die Hard. But the latest increase comes with no additional benefits. The blame for Disney’s latest price gouge? Inflation.
How to lock in the old Disney Plus rate
Until the cost of Disney Plus officially goes up on December 8 (7:00PM AEST to be exact,) Australians can still nab a 12-month subscription to Disney+ for $119.99. At the current price, that already saves you $23.89 for the year. Compared to the new price of $13.99, it's a saving of $47.89 over the year.

So how much will Disney Plus cost now in Australia?
From December 8 Disney Plus will cost $13.99 per month or $139.99 per year. That’s about 16.5% more than it previously cost ($11.99), and over 50% more than Disney Plus cost when it first launched in 2019 ($8.99).
Disney Plus was also one of the first big streaming services to completely ditch its free trial a year in; following Netflix’s lead.
Disney Plus will also be launching a cheaper ad-supported tier in the United States this month, but there’s no word if or when it will come to Australia. This once again follows Netflix, which just launched a $6.99 tier with ads locally.
How does Disney Plus compare in 2022?
Disney Plus is in good company when it comes to price increases. Local streamer Stan recently bumped its prices too. Stan’s Standard plan went from $14 to $16 per month, and its Premium plan went from $19 to $21 per month.
Similarly, Netflix has gone through a number of price increases in Australia since it first launched locally. Back in 2015, Netflix plans cost $8.99, $11.99 and $14.99 for Basic, Standard and Premium, respectively. These days, those same plans will cost you $10.99, $16.99 and $22.99.
Meanwhile, Amazon Prime Video recently released one of the most expensive TV shows in history but still charges just $6.99 per month.
