Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler in Lanterns

After the disaster that was Martin Campbell's 2011 Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds, DCU's glowing green superhero is getting a reboot for the small screen. Releasing later this year, Lanterns will be an official part of James Gunn's revamped DCU that includes John Cena's Peacekeeper and David Corenswet's Superman.

How to watch Lanterns in Australia

Lanterns will appear exclusively on HBO Max. HBO subscriptions start from $11.99 per month, but that's with ads. If you want an ad-free experience, Standard is the way to go for just $4.00 more per month.

If you want 4K on more screens, Premium will allow you to watch on four devices at once. If you're up for a long term commitment and want to make your money go further, we recommend subscribing annually. This will save you just under $24 for its ad-inclusive plan or just over $31 on HBO Max's ad-free tiers.

What is Lanterns about?

The Lanterns series follows the legendary Green Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), who is joined by new recruit to the Lantern Corps John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) who is learning the ropes by helping investigate a small-town murder in Nebraska. The story was reportedly inspired by HBO's True Detective.

Hal Jordan and John Stewart will be joined, at some stage, by the worst haircut in the DCU, Guy Gardner, who was portrayed by Nathan Fillion in Superman and Peacemaker. Iconic Green Lantern villain Sinestro has also been cast and will be played by Ulrich Thomsen (Banshee).

Writers: Tom King, Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy | Cast: Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Nathan Fillion, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Jason Ritter, Nicole Ari Parker, Poorna Jagannathan
