Over three years since Peacemaker first graced the small screen, John Cena’s small-town, world-class marksman is set to return this week for a second season. Here’s how and when you will be able to watch Peacemaker: Season 2 in Australia.
How to watch Peacemaker in Australia
While Peacemaker Season 1 streamed on Binge and Foxtel in Australia, Season 2 will be exclusive to HBO Max, which launched in Australia earlier this year. HBO Max is priced similarly to Binge and Netflix, in that there are three plans with different inclusions.
You can get HBO Max for as little as $11.99 per month (or $119.99 per year) if you’re willing to accept regular ad breaks. But if you want to go ad-free, you’ll have to pay at least $15.99 per month (or $159.99 per year) or $21.99 per month ($219.99 per year) if you want to stream Peacemaker in 4K.
It doesn’t come with a free trial in Australia but there are a few HBO Max deals that you can take advantage of if you want to minimise your monthly spend. Perhaps the most tempting of these deals is free access to HBO Max with any Foxtel plan.
Foxtel customers get 12 months of HBO Max Basic for free with any plan.
Peacemaker Season 2 premieres at 11:00am AEST on Friday, August 22 in Australia. There will be eight episodes in total, released weekly at the same time. The season finale will release on Friday, October 10.
- Episode 1: August 22
- Episode 2: August 29
- Episode 3: September 5
- Episode 4: September 12
- Episode 5: September 19
- Episode 6: September 26
- Episode 7: October 3
- Finale - Episode 8: October 10
What is Peacemaker Season 2 about?
Mild spoilers for Peacemaker Season 1 follow. I’ll try to keep it vague but you have been warned..
The first season saw Chris Smith, aka Peacemaker, returning home to his trailer and avian life partner Eagly after the events of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, in which he betrayed his team in exchange for reduced prison time.
Before too long, Peacemaker was pulled back into the fray by Amanda Waller and her A.R.G.U.S. lackeys, enlisted into a covert mission to neutralize a race of body-snatching alien invaders known as “butterflies”.
Along the way, Peacemaker reunited with friends, like the equally unhinged Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), and family, Peacemaker’s cold and unloving fascist supervillain father (Robert Patrick).
Season 1 saw Peacemaker question his murderous ways and, ultimately, confront his past as he formed new connections with his A.R.G.U.S. comrades, Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), Amelia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), and John Economos (Steve Agee). Together, a group affectionately dubbed the 11th Street Kids, saved the world from a full-blown alien invasion.
Season 2 picks up after the events of Season 1 and Superman (2025), in which Peacemaker made a very brief but hilarious cameo. With some time passed since the butterfly invasion, Christopher Smith returns home to his late father’s hidden workshop – a pocket dimension between universes – only to discover a parallel universe where everything worked out for Peacemaker. In this alternate timeline, Peacemaker’s Dad and brother are not only still alive, but they are celebrated superheroes in their own right (and probably not white supremacists… hopefully). He’s also in a loving relationship with none other than Amelia Harcourt.
Peacemaker from the prime DC universe decides he doesn’t want to leave this picture-perfect version of his life, and sets out on a mission to replace that universe’s Peacemaker.
At the same time, Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), the Director of A.R.G.U.S., has a score to settle with the Peacemaker, who killed his son, Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman) at the end of 2021’s The Suicide Squad.
