We all love a reliable horror franchise. Whether it's the gruesome cringe of Final Destination or the self-aware scares of Scream, horror has a unique way of sinking its hooks in. And this year, there are loads of freaky franchises getting a second (or seventh) instalment.
So here's our guide to a stack of horror sequels released, or being released, this year, and which streaming services will allow you to catch up on the originals.
Soulm8te
Sequel to M3GAN 2.0 (2025) | In cinemas 2026
In a world filled with driverless cars, AI answering all of our questions (none too accurately, I might add), and smart-home tech taking control, M3GAN went the extra mile, introducing robots in even closer proximity than films like iRobot have before.
Soulm8te is an upcoming spin-off that reportedly expands on the M3GAN universe by exploring what happens when emotions truly entangle with machinery. In this psychological thriller, a widower learns a hard lesson after forming a romantic bond with an AI-powered android.
Soulm8te was meant to release in January, but Universal pulled it from the release calendar after M3GAN 2.0 bombed at the Box Office. Despite that, it's still apparently coming out in 2026, we just don't know how or where.
M3GAN 2.0 is currently streaming on Netflix and Binge. M3GAN is available to rent or buy on services like Amazon Prime.
Soulm8te is coming to cinemas sometime in 2026, allegedly.
Violent Night 2
Sequel to Violent Night (2022) | In cinemas December
This Christmas, instead of milk and cookies, Santa has a taste for revenge.
In the last instalment of Violent Night, Santa righted some wrongs in a very graphic and literal sense. No metaphors or coal in your stocking, this Santa is hellbent on delivering karma, not presents.
Violent Night 2 sees Santa trapped in a New York mall (let's face it, this is everyone's December nightmare) with no way back to the North Pole. And to make matters worse, he comes face-to-face with a vicious crime lord who thinks he rules the roost. The perfect recipe for a violent night.
Violent Night is available to rent or buy on services like Apple TV and Amazon.
Totally unrelated, but remember that time Lily Allen sang 'Somewhere Only We Know' for a John Lewis Christmas ad? That was incredible.
Violent Night 2 comes to cinemas just in time for the Christmas season on December 4.
Evil Dead Burn
Sequel to Evil Dead Rise (2023) | In cinemas July 10
Evil Dead is one of those classic goofy horror franchises like Jeepers Creepers; unlike the latter, Evil Dead has stood the test of time. 30 years after the 1983 original, a remake emerged, and since then, sequels have been pumped out to make sure it's never truly forgotten.
Evil Dead began as a classic 'creepy-cabin-in-the-woods' story but quickly evolved into a time-travelling horror-comedy starring a man with a chainsaw as an arm. When the series was rebooted in 2013, the thermostat moved further towards the franchise's horror roots, and less towards the comedy side (though there are still some good gross-out gags).
In this latest instalment, a young woman who was recently widowed seeks comfort with her in-laws. But one by one, they become possessed by evil demons, creating an environment that is anything but healing.
Streaming the entire Evil Dead collection is a bit of a nightmare. To start, if you just want the reboot series, you'll find Evil Dead (2013) on Stan and Evil Dead Rise (2023) on HBO Max. And those are the easy ones. If you want to watch The Evil Dead (1981), you'll have to buy or rent it on digital storefronts. The same goes for Evil Dead II (1987) unless you happen to have a Rialto subscription through Amazon Prime Video Channels. Army of Darkness will also require an Amazon Prime Video subscription and an MGM add-on. Mercifully, all three seasons of Ash vs Evil Dead are available for free on Tubi.
Evil Dead Burn will premiere in cinemas on July 10.
Insidious: Out of the Further
Sequel to Insidious (2010) | In cinemas August
The Insidious franchise came along at a time when everyone wanted a good jump-scare. Let Me In, Devil, Saw 3D and Paranormal Activity 2 all debuted around the same time but few of these have continued to churn out regular titles like the Insidious films.
This chapter, the sixth in the franchise, will be a horror-mystery thriller that follows a young mum, Gemma, who returns to her childhood home only to find out she can travel into the purgatorial 'Further', and bring those living there back from the beyond.
Insidious: Out of the Further will be a direct sequel to 2023's Insidious: The Red Door, which is available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
You can rent or buy the rest of the Insidious movies through platforms like Apple TV or you can sign up for Stan, where you'll be able to stream Insidious 1 - 3 and Insidious: The Last Key.
Insidious: Out of the Further is in cinemas from August 2026.
Scream 7
Sequel to Scream VI (2023) | Now available
Scream has been the slashin' it up 30 years running, and for good reason. The idea of being stalked by Ghostface strikes fear into all of our hearts as soon as a private caller rings when we're home alone.
With each new film, a fresh psycho killer dons the mask, and this year's Scream 7 release is no exception to the rule. But before you can watch it, you need to brush up on all the series' victims, past killers and backstories leading back to the one and only Sidney Prescott.
Catching up with the Scream series is a little complicated. If you just want to watch the new ones, Scream V, Scream VI and Scream 7, you'll need to buy or rent them via Apple TV. Binge only has Scream and Scream 2, Paramount Plus has Scream 1 to 3, while Stan has Scream 1 to 4. Prime Video also has Scream 7 but it will set you back $6.99 to rent it, buy it for $19.99 (with the extras included) or for $34.99 (marked down from $49.97) you can buy the Scream 5-7 collection as a bundle.
The short version? If you want the new movies, buy the bundle on Apple TV. If you want the old movies, Stan's got you covered.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come 2
Sequel to Ready or Not (2019) | Now available
Seven years after the original Ready or Not film, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come gears up for round two.
The original follows the story of Grace, a young Bride whose wealthy future in-laws hunt her for sport in an elaborate, bloody version of Hide-and-Seek. Their motive is far more sinister than 'intense family game night' as she must outwit them all until the sun rises. Ready or Not 2 picks up moments after the first film's intense ending. When Grace's sister is pulled into the game, she has no choice but to butcher a new band of bloodthirsty billionaires.
Ready or Not is streaming on Disney Plus.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is currently available to rent or buy from Prime Video. You can either rent the sequel for $19.99 or purchase the first and second film as a bundle for $24.99 (marked down from $34.98).
Return to Silent Hill
Sequel to Silent Hill (2006) | Now available
In the original film, when Rose wakes from a bizarre car accident to find her adopted daughter, Sharon, missing, she must venture into the eerie town of Silent Hill to find her.
This sinister place was plunged into an apocalyptic-like state since a tragedy burned it to the ground 30 years prior, forever plaguing it with horrific monsters and painful memories of tragedy.
While the first movie was only loosely inspired by the first Silent Hill video game, Return to Silent Hill is a more direct adaptation of the beloved sequel, Silent Hill 2.
The original Silent Hill isn't currently available on any streaming service or digital storefront. It is, however, available to watch in full on this YouTube channel.
Return to Silent Hill is available to rent or buy on services like Apple TV.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
Sequel to 28 Years Later (2025) | Now available
Take a step back in time to the pre-Peaky Blinders days of Cillian Murphy with 28 Days Later, an apocalyptic drama perfect for distracting you from the horrors of the real world.
When a group of animal activists attempt to release a bunch of chimpanzees from a testing lab, they unleash something much more sinister: a zombie-like virus that rapidly infects millions across the UK.
In the original 28 Days Later, Murphy plays Jim, a man who wakes from a coma after the virus has taken hold of the nation. He must navigate his way to other survivors and safety to stay alive and infection-free. The sequel, 28 Weeks Later released five years later in 2007 and, eventually, a third movie, 28 Years Later was released in 2025 and was quickly followed by a Part 2 subtitled The Bone Temple in 2026. Does Cillian Murphy return for the latest entries? Well, you'll just have to Bone Up to find out.
Here's where you can catch up on every movie from the 28 Days Later series.
Disney Plus only has 28 Weeks Later, but Stan has both 28 Weeks and 28 Days Later. 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple are both available on Amazon Prime Video with a subscription.
That's just the tip of the iceberg this year. Here are some more sequels coming in 2026.
Plus here's some that we don't know too much about yet. Godzilla Minus One will get a sequel in November, titled Godzilla Minus 0. Also the 90s classics Cliffhanger is also getting a sequel in August.
We will continue to revisit this guide as more sequels are announced throughout the year.
