Pixel 2 XL

Google's next Pixel devices are probably still a couple of months away, but Android Police today published the first render of what is said to be the search giant's latest "in-house" smartphone. Specifically, the image depicts what the publication believes the larger 2017 Pixel device will look like.

We're not sure what Google will call it yet, so for the sake of simplicity, we're referring to it as the Pixel 2 XL.

Rumours suggest that Pixel 2 XL will be made by LG, and feature the same style of extra-tall 18:9 used in the G6 and Samsung's Galaxy S8. The screen is said to measure in at 6-inches (up from not only the Pixel XL's 5.5-inch display, but the G6's 5.7-inch display) with curved glass at the edges. The display itself is flat though.

Like the HTC-manufactured Pixel XL, there's still a glass backing around the camera, but it's been shrunk down and no longer surrounds the fingerprint reader.

It's worth noting that this Pixel 2 image isn't a leaked official render, but an image created by Android Police. The publication believes is an accurate representation of the new device. Android Police has a good track record when it comes to leaks, and had the first depiction of the original Pixel around this time last year.

Other expected Pixel 2 XL specifications include a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a variant with 128GB of storage. None of these inclusions would be surprising for a high-end smartphone launching at the end of 2017.

We don’t know exactly when Google will unveil its next Pixel devices, but late September or early October are a good guess based on last year and past Nexus phone releases. We're just hoping they'll be available on telcos other than Telstra.
