Apple today took the wraps of a new iPhone 7 colour: red. Launching in collaboration with AIDS charity (PRODUCT) RED, Apple will donate a portion of every sale to the Global Fund supporting HIV/AIDS programs.
"The introduction of this special edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest (PRODUCT) RED offering to date in celebration of our partnership with (RED), and we can’t wait to get it into customers' hands," said Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Other than a schmick new red aluminum finish, the red iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are identical to the handsets that Apple launched in September last year. And of course, it is worth noting that we're roughly half a year away from the next iPhone launch, so if you are after the latest and greatest, it could be worth waiting.
The red iPhone 7 special editions are only available in 128GB and 256GB configurations. Pricing is as follows:
- 128GB iPhone 7: $1,229
- 256GB iPhone 7: $1,379
- 128GB iPhone 7 Plus: $1,419
- 256GB iPhone 7 Plus: $1,569
This identical to what Apple charges for these configurations in other colours.

If you want to get your hands on the new hotness and make your friends with old and busted jet black iPhone 7s jealous, you'll be able to pre-order the red iPhone 7 special editions from 2:01am AEDT on the 25th of March. The red iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will also be available from select telcos, although we're waiting to see who exactly will range it.
On a personal note, I think red looks hot as hell and hope it becomes a permanent addition to the iPhone colour palette.
