The next generation of Samsung Galaxy phones has just been officially revealed - the S24 range. Here's how to pre-order yours so you get it in your hands as soon as possible.

How do I pre-order the Galaxy S24?

You have two options for securing your brand-new Galaxy S24 phone. You can pre-order one from now on a plan until February 6 from a major telco or purchase one outright from Samsung or another official store.

The basic process for pre-ordering the Galaxy S24 no matter which option you choose is as follows.

Pre-ordering your Galaxy S24

  1. Choose whether you want to buy your new Galaxy S24 on a mobile phone plan or outright
  2. Select which model Galaxy S24 you're after, what storage capacity you need and consider any extras you might want
  3. Compare mobile providers and their plans to find the best deal

Remember: Planning is key, availability for the model and colour you want can vary between retailers.

Telstra, Optus and Vodafone are known to put together enticing pre-order deals. This means it's worth comparing their Galaxy S24 offers even if you plan to buy it outright.

Pre-ordering the Galaxy S24 on a plan

Galaxy S24 family

Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone each offer the Galaxy S24 range on mobile plans. Each has the option of either a 12, 24 or 36-month repayment period.

Working out how much your monthly repayments will be, is a simple calculation. Divide the outright price of the Galaxy S24 model you've selected and divide it by the number of months in your chosen repayment period. Then you will just need to add the cost of your monthly SIM plan to get the final monthly cost.

Here's what each of the big three telcos is offering as a pre-order deal.

Optus: Pre-ordering any Galaxy S24 via Optus means you'll get a bonus Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro (valued at $549 and $349 RRP respectively).

Vodafone: When you pre-order any Galaxy S24 from Vodafone you can get a discount. Get $200 off the S24, $250 off the S24 Plus and $300 off the S24 Ultra. You can get a further $400 bonus credit when you trade-in an eligible device.

Telstra: Pre-ordering any Galaxy S24 device through Telstra comes with a bonus Samsung Tab S9 FE (valued at $949 RRP).  On the 300GB Premium plan only you'll also get $20 a month off for 12 months.

When was the new Galaxy S24 announced?

The official announcement of the new Galaxy S24 happened for Australians in the early hours of Thursday, January 18 2024.

While you can pre-order them from now the new Samsung Galaxy S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra won't be available in stores for about another two and a half weeks.

Pre-order the Galaxy S24 outright

If you want to keep your current phone plan and just pre-order a new Galaxy S24 phone outright then you will be able to order one through most tech retailers. This includes Samsung itself, Amazon, The Good Guys, JB Hi-Fi etc.

Pre-ordering any model through Samsung comes with a whole list of benefits:

  • Free storage upgrade (up to $400)
  • Up to $150 eVoucher to spend on Galaxy Watch, Tablet, Buds or accessories ($100 for base and Plus models, $150 for Ultra model)
  • Further 5% discount on your first Samsung Shop App purchase
  • A free year of Samsung Care Plus
  • 50% off the second year of Samsung Care Plus
  • Bonus trade-in (up to $350)

If you pre-order through Amazon you get a free upgrade to the next storage variant and up to $150 Amazon store credit. Broken down it looks like this:

  • Galaxy S24. Pre-order the 512GB for the price of the 256GB variant, plus $100 Amazon credit
  • Galaxy S24 Plus. Pre-order the 512GB for the price of the 256GB variant, plus $100 Amazon credit
  • Galaxy S24 Ultra. Pre-order the 512GB for the price of the 256GB variant, plus $150 Amazon credit OR pre-order the 1TB for the price of the 512GB variant, plus $150 Amazon credit

When will I get my Galaxy S24?

Pre-orders for the Galaxy S24 are open from now and close on February 6 with a February 7 release day.

If you're living in a big city there's every chance you can expect to receive your phone on release day or shortly within the days following. It may take longer for your new phone to arrive the further away you live.

Can I still get a Galaxy S24 if I don't pre-order?

Yes, however pre-ordering is the best way to guarantee you get your new Galaxy S24 device as soon as possible. Once they hit stores and are available more widely delays can be more likely. This is especially the case if you're less flexible on which model or colour you're after. There's a wide range to choose from but you never know which one is going to prove most popular.

Of course, this doesn't mean you'll never get your hands on a Galaxy S24 handset if you don't pre-order. You've still got a good chance of picking one up around launch, but your prospects will probably be even better once the initial hype period is over.

How much is the new Galaxy S24?

As we've come to expect there are three different versions of the new Samsung Galaxy S24. This includes the standard Galaxy S24, medium-sized Galaxy S24 Plus and the largest Galaxy S24 Ultra. You can consider the S24 the base model. The Plus is a larger version and then the Ultra is where you'll see not just a size increase but the more noticeable benefits of improved specs.

Prices for each Galaxy S24 phone go up incrementally with storage capacity. Prices start from $1,399 and go all the way up to $2,799.

Here is a breakdown of the Galaxy S24's RRPs based on model and size capacity:

Phone RRPSee Price on
Samsung Galaxy S24 (256GB) $1,399SamsungAmazon
Samsung Galaxy S24 (512GB) $1,599SamsungAmazon
Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus (256GB) $1,699SamsungAmazon
Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus (512GB) $1,899SamsungAmazon
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (256GB) $2,199SamsungAmazon
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (512GB) $2,399SamsungAmazon
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (1TB) $2,799SamsungAmazon

What's the cheapest way to get a Galaxy S24?

Buying a new Galaxy S24 device outright is simple enough but will have the most immediate consequences on your bank account. If you choose to get a Samsung Galaxy S24 on a plan from Telstra, Optus or Vodafone you have the option of "smoothing out" the cost over 12, 24 or 36 months. This means purchasing the S24 on a plan with a 36-month repayment period is the cheapest way of getting the phone on a plan.

However, it's worth keeping in mind that the big three providers' plans are already on the more expensive side. To get the cheapest deal overall it's best (if you can afford it) to weather the cost of the Galaxy S24 upfront and then pair it with a cheaper SIM-only plan from a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) like Boost, amaysim, felix etc.
