NBN Co today announced the first three Western Australian NBN sites have been switched on, giving the state its first taste of what the government-funded broadband scheme can deliver.

Victoria Park, Mandurah and Geraldton are the first three suburbs to be connected to the network, with NBN Co estimating that 3000 premises are in range of the transit ring and over 8000 more to be ready for connection in the coming months.

Occupants at these premises will still need to make contact with a service provider for the final stage of the install and to set up an account on an NBN plan.

Western Australian is the final Australian state to be NBN-ready, with all other states already connected on some level. Tasmania, the first state to get NBN service, is well ahead of the curve, with a launch in Launceston last week.
