The upfront price of WiFi modems and routers are often overlooked in NBN plan comparisons, but they can seriously add up. Some providers may offer affordable plans, but will offset the discounted price into the upfront cost of setup and hardware. The first month cost with some providers can be well over $300.

Superloop does things a bit differently, with $0 setup costs on all plans and by offering a fast WiFi 6 modem as an optional add-on. Everyone can take advantage of Superloop’s best NBN plan pricing, and take up the offer of a new router if they need it.

ZTE H1600: White lightning

The router in question is the ZTE H1600 dual-band router with new, fast WiFi 6 technology. This is the latest leap forward in WiFi standards which not only delivers faster speeds to your devices, but is much better at making sure each device on the network is getting the data being requested.

The fact is, we’re all using more internet connected devices than we did just a couple of years ago. We’ve gone from having a single, shared computer in the living room, to having a laptop, a smartphone, a tablet and a smart TV — multiplied by the number of people in our homes. Then add all of the smart home devices you might have installed, like light globes, robot vacuums, maybe your washing machine and dryer.

This growing number of connected devices can be a strain on older routers, but WiFi 6 is like a sophisticated traffic controller. It can handle hundreds of devices simultaneously, so that everyone can get online without worrying about buffering and router-related drop outs. This is an important upgrade for anyone with a router that is more than a year old.

And you’ll need all of the tech in the ZTE H1600 to handle the great speeds you can expect from the Superloop network. While it may seem like all NBN providers are the same, this is definitely not the case with Superloop, which is one of the only providers who manage large sections of the connection from the NBN access network to your door.

The Superloop difference

The vast majority of NBN providers operate by leasing NBN access, and the required equipment, from just a handful of network wholesalers. Without owning any equipment in the network, these providers only have so much control over the services they offer.

Superloop has gone the extra mile, connecting directly to the NBN at all 121 Points of Interconnect (POI) all across the country. This gives Superloop a massive advantage over the competition in the way it can tune the internet service it delivers.

To illustrate this, Superloop has a handy tool on its website that lets you see how the network is being used at the POI closest to your home or business. In the graph below, you can see the traffic usage on the Darwin POI in the Northern Territory.

Simply put, CVC (Connectivity Virtual Circuit) is a measure of bandwidth, and providers allocate CVC to try and meet the needs of their customers. If a provider misses the mark with CVC, all the customers on that POI may not be able to access the speeds they are paying for.

But thanks to Superloop’s ownership of this key infrastructure, its network experts can monitor and increase this CVC allocation if the network becomes overloaded. Rather than needing to rely on a wholesaler, the Superloop team can jump in and make the necessary adjustments.

This enormous technology investment doesn’t mean you miss out on essential NBN features, though. Superloop customers enjoy Australian-based call centres for support, no lock in contracts on all NBN services, and $0 sign up fees for all new customers.
