A swell of new ISPs has created a fierce bidding war from your broadband business, and while prices can’t go much lower, a number of service providers are ditching long-term contracts to curry favour.

This is a big win for internet lovers who want a fixed-line service but aren’t prepared to commit to a two-year contract without being able to test the service. Renters are also rewarded in these plans, with month-to-month plans making it easy to move to a new home without worrying about whether they are breaking contracts with an ISP.

Depending on which ISP you choose, you may also find you can bundle in other services, like a home phone service. We’ve scanned the WhistleOut search pages to find you the best ADSL2+ plans with no long term commitments.

As a WhistleOut search reveals, Monthly plans run the pricing gamut, from low-cost options starting from about $40 per month, up to plans in excess of $100. Data inclusions start from 20GB and include plans with unlimited data.

Things to watch out for

In a number of instances with the ISPs listed, choosing a Monthly plan will increase the cost of the service. Some ISPs increase the monthly fee for the service, while others might slap on a significantly higher setup fee, compared with the same charge on long-term plans.

Vaya, for example, offers unlimited downloads for $45 per month, but has the same plan for $39 if you choose an 18-month term.

iPrimus charge the same amount per month regardless of the plan term, but charge an extra $110 in setup fees for Monthly plans and $60 more for a wireless modem router.

Also be aware that an ISP’s cheapest price is often for Metro customers only. Providing services for rural areas attract a number of extra costs for ISPs, so the price of the service is also higher. Our cheapest Monthly plan is the Spintel 20GB plan for $39.90, but if you live in a regional area you can expect to pay $49.90 for the same data.
